Idioms and Phrasal Verbs for BAC
Idioms: expressions with figurative meaning. Common idioms: break the ice (start a conversation), hit the nail on the head (be exactly right), once in a blue moon (rarely), piece of cake (very easy), cost an arm and a leg (very expensive), when pigs fly (never), under the weather (ill), spill the beans (reveal a secret). Phrasal verbs: verb + preposition/adverb. Common phrasal verbs: look for (search), look after (take care), give up (stop), turn down (refuse), bring up (raise children), come across (find by chance), get along with (have good relationship), put off (postpone), run out of (exhaust supply), take after (resemble family). Examples: I came across an interesting book yesterday. She takes after her mother. They called off the meeting.
