Expressing Purpose: To, In Order To, So That
Expressing purpose explains why an action is done. To + infinitive: I study to learn. In order to + infinitive (more formal): She worked hard in order to succeed. So as to + infinitive: He left early so as to arrive on time. So that + clause (can/could/will/would): I saved money so that I could buy a car. So that + clause (present/future): I will study hard so that I can pass. So that + clause (past): He studied hard so that he would pass. For + noun/-ing: I went to the store for milk. This tool is for cutting wood. Examples: He went to university to get a degree. She exercises regularly so that she can stay healthy.
