Making Requests and Offers
Requests: Can you…? (informal). Could you…? (polite). Would you mind…? (very polite). May I…? (formal). Examples: Can you help me? Could you open the window please? Would you mind waiting? Offers: Can I…? Shall I…? Would you like…? Do you want…? Examples: Can I help you? Shall I open the door? Would you like some tea? Responding to requests: Sure, of course. Certainly. I am sorry, I cannot. Responding to offers: Yes, please. That would be great. No, thank you. Exercise: Write a conversation between two friends where one asks for help with homework.
