Imperatives: Giving Instructions and Orders
The imperative is used to give orders, instructions, advice, or requests.
1. Affirmative Imperative
Use the base form of the verb: Open the door. Sit down. Read the text. Listen carefully.
2. Negative Imperative
Don’t + base verb: Don’t run in the corridor. Don’t be late. Don’t forget your homework.
3. Uses
- Instructions: Mix the flour and water.
- Orders: Stop talking!
- Advice: Eat healthy food.
- Requests: Please close the window.
- Warnings: Look out! Be careful!
4. Exercises
