Reading Comprehension: Strategies and Techniques

Reading comprehension is the ability to understand and interpret written texts. Key strategies: previewing (read title, headings, pictures before reading), skimming (read quickly for main ideas), scanning (look for specific information), predicting (guess what will come next), inferring (read between the lines), summarizing (restate main points in your own words), questioning (ask yourself questions while reading). Types of comprehension questions: literal (facts), inferential (implied meaning), evaluative (opinion and judgment).
