Making Suggestions: Let’s, Why don’t we, How about

There are several ways to make suggestions in English. Each has a different level of formality.

1. Let’s + verb

Informal: Let’s go to the cinema. Let’s play football.

2. Why don’t we + verb

Neutral: Why don’t we watch a movie? Why don’t we eat out tonight?

3. How about / What about + verb-ing

Neutral: How about going for a walk? What about having a break?

4. Responses

Positive: Good idea! That sounds great! Yes, let’s!
Negative: I’m not sure. Maybe another time. That’s not a good idea.
