Linking Words

Types of linking words

• And: addition. (I like apples and oranges.)
• But: contrast. (I am tired but happy.)
• Or: alternative. (Do you want tea or coffee?)
• So: result. (I was tired, so I went to bed.)
• Because: reason. (I stayed home because it was raining.)
• Although: concession. (Although it rained, we played outside.)

Examples

🔹 She studied hard and passed the exam.
🔹 He is rich but not happy.
🔹 I was hungry so I ate a sandwich.
🔹 Although he was sick, he went to school.
