The Present Continuous: Formation and Use
This lesson teaches the Present Continuous tense. For 1st year literary stream students.
Formation
Subject + am/is/are + verb-ing
- I am reading a book.
- He/She is playing football.
- We/You/They are studying.
Uses
1. Actions happening now: “She is eating lunch right now.”
2. Temporary situations: “I am staying with my friend this week.”
3. Future arrangements: “We are flying to London tomorrow.”
Spelling rules
- Verbs ending in -e: remove -e + -ing (make → making)
- Verbs ending CVC: double last letter + -ing (run → running)
