Comparative and Superlative Adjectives

This lesson teaches comparative and superlative adjectives in English. For 2nd year literary stream students.

Formation

Short adjectives (1-2 syllables): er/est: tall – taller – the tallest

Long adjectives (3+ syllables): more/most: beautiful – more beautiful – the most beautiful

Irregular forms

• good – better – the best
• bad – worse – the worst
• far – farther/further – the farthest/furthest

Examples

“Ahmed is taller than Ali.” (comparative)

“She is the most intelligent student.” (superlative)

Exercises

Complete: “This book is (interesting) ______ than that one.”
