Reported Speech: Questions and Commands

Reporting questions and commands follows different patterns. Questions use ‘if’ or ‘wh-word’, commands use ‘to + verb’.

1. Yes/No Questions

Use ‘if’ or ‘whether’: “Do you like tea?” → He asked if I liked tea.

2. Wh- Questions

Keep the question word: “Where do you live?” → She asked where I lived.

3. Commands

Use ‘told + to’: “Close the door” → He told me to close the door.

Exercises

Report: “What time is it?” → … “Don’t run!” → …
