Expressing addition means adding more information to support your argument. This is essential for writing coherent essays and paragraphs.
1. Connectors of Addition
- Moreover: Formal, adds important information. Example: “The car is economical. Moreover, it is environmentally friendly.”
- Furthermore: Similar to moreover, very formal. Example: “The project is profitable. Furthermore, it creates jobs.”
- In addition (to): Can be followed by noun or clause. Example: “In addition to being cheap, it is reliable.”
- Besides: More informal. Example: “I don’t like the idea. Besides, it’s too expensive.”
- Also / Too / As well: Common usage. Example: “He also speaks Arabic.”
2. Exercises
- Complete: The phone is modern. ______, it has a great camera. / ______ being a doctor, he is a writer.
