Word Order in Questions

Question formation follows specific rules in English. The auxiliary verb comes before the subject.

Yes/No questions

Auxiliary + Subject + Main verb: Do you like English? / Is she a student? / Have you finished?

Wh- questions

Question word + Auxiliary + Subject + Main verb: Where do you live? / What are you doing? / Why did you leave?

Subject questions

When the question word is the subject: Who wrote this book? / What happened? (No auxiliary needed)
