Subject and Predicate Types and Rules
The subject and predicate are the two essential components of a nominal sentence in Arabic.
Definition
The subject is the noun at the beginning of the sentence. The predicate completes the meaning. Both are nominative.
Types of Predicate
Single word: The sky is clear. Phrase: The student his book is new. Prepositional phrase: The teacher in the classroom.
Rules
Subject and predicate agree in gender and number. The subject is definite the predicate is usually indefinite.
Exercises
Identify the subject and predicate: 1) Knowledge is light. 2) The man is generous. 3) The students in the school.
