Past Simple vs Past Continuous
Understanding the difference between Past Simple and Past Continuous is important for 1st Year Secondary literary stream students (شعبة آداب).
1. Past Simple
Use: Completed actions in the past, habits in the past.
Form: Subject + V2 (past) or did not + V1
- I visited Paris last year.
- She did not come to the party.
- Did you see the film?
2. Past Continuous
Use: Actions in progress at a specific time in the past, interrupted actions.
Form: Subject + was/were + V-ing
- I was studying at 8 PM yesterday.
- They were playing football when it started to rain.
3. When to use which
