English – Future Perfect and Future Continuous – BAC Literary Stream
Future perfect and future continuous are advanced tenses used to talk about actions in progress or completed at a specific time in the future. These structures can help you achieve higher marks in the BAC exam.
Future Continuous (will be + verb-ing):
Uses: action in progress at a specific time in the future, or a future arrangement.
Examples: “This time next week, I will be lying on the beach.” / “Don’t call at 8 pm; I will be studying.” / “Will you be using the car tomorrow?”
Future Perfect (will have + past participle):
Uses: action that will be completed by a specific time in the future.
Examples: “By the end of this year, I will have saved enough money.” / “She will have finished her project by Friday.” / “They will have arrived by midnight.”
Signal Words:
- Future Continuous: at 5 pm, this time next week/month/year, at this time tomorrow
- Future Perfect: by, by the time, by then, by next week/month/year, before, by the end of
By vs Until:
- By: at or before a specific time. “I will have finished by 5 pm.” (any time before 5)
- Until: up to a specific time. “I will study until 5 pm.” (continuous up to 5)
BAC Exercise:
Complete with future continuous or future perfect:
