Making Offers and Invitations: Let s, Shall, Would you like
In English, there are different ways to make offers, invitations, and suggestions.
Making Suggestions
- Let s + verb: “Let s go to the park.”
- Shall we + verb? “Shall we play football?”
- How about / What about + gerund? “How about watching a film?”
- Why don t we + verb? “Why don t we visit the museum?”
Making Offers
- Can I / Could I? “Can I help you?”
- Shall I? “Shall I open the window?”
- Would you like me to? “Would you like me to carry your bag?”
Making Invitations
- Would you like to + verb? “Would you like to come to my party?”
- Do you want to + verb? “Do you want to play with us?”
- I d like to invite you to… “I d like to invite you to my birthday.”
