Expressing Certainty and Uncertainty

Certainty:

I am sure / certain / positive / convinced that…
Definitely, certainly, undoubtedly, absolutely, of course.
Modal: must + V1 (present certainty). “He must be at home.”
Modal: must have + V3 (past certainty). “He must have left.”

Uncertainty:

I am not sure / uncertain / doubtful that…
Maybe, perhaps, probably, possibly.
Modal: might/may/could + V1 (present possibility). “He might be sick.”
Modal: might have + V3 (past possibility). “He might have forgotten.”
