Objectives:

• Distinguish between Present Simple and Present Continuous tenses
• Use each tense correctly in context
• Identify time expressions associated with each tense

Explanation:

1. Present Simple

Formation: Subject + Verb (base form) / Verb + s/es (he/she/it)

Uses:

• Habits and routines: I wake up at 7 every day.
• Facts and general truths: Water boils at 100C.
• Permanent situations: They live in Algiers.

Time expressions: always, usually, often, sometimes, rarely, never, every day, once a week

2. Present Continuous (Progressive)

Formation: Subject + am/is/are + Verb-ing

Uses:

• Actions happening now: I am studying for the exam.
• Temporary situations: She is staying with her aunt this week.
• Future arrangements: We are meeting tomorrow at 3 PM.

Time expressions: now, right now, at the moment, today, this week, Look!, Listen!

3. Key Differences

Stative verbs only	Action verbs only

4. Stative Verbs (not used in continuous):

love, hate, like, want, need, know, understand, believe, belong, seem, smell, taste, think (opinion)

Correct: I know the answer. (NOT I am knowing)
