Conditional sentences (Type 1) are used to talk about real and possible situations in the future. They express a condition that has a realistic chance of happening. In this lesson, we will learn how to form and use the First Conditional (If Clauses Type 1). This lesson is designed for fourth-year middle school students following the Algerian curriculum.

الشرح المبسط

What is the First Conditional? (ما هو الشرط الأول؟)

نستخدم First Conditional للتحدث عن مواقف حقيقية وممكنة في المستقبل. الجملة الشرطية تتكون من جزأين:

• If clause (جملة الشرط): If + Present Simple
• Main clause (جملة الجواب): will + base verb (المصدر)

Formula (القاعدة):

If + Subject + Present Simple, Subject + will + base verb

مثال: If it rains, I will stay at home. (إذا أمطرت، سأبقى في المنزل)

يمكن عكس الترتيب:

Subject + will + base verb + if + Subject + Present Simple

مثال: I will stay at home if it rains.

📌 ملاحظة: لا نضع فاصلة (,) عندما تبدأ جملة الجواب.

استخدامات First Conditional:

• وعود (Promises): If you study hard, you will pass the exam.
• تحذيرات (Warnings): If you touch the fire, you will burn yourself.
• نتائج محتملة (Possible results): If we hurry, we will catch the bus.
• خطط (Plans): If the weather is nice, we will go to the beach.

استخدام Unless (إلا إذا):

Unless تعني “إلا إذا” وتستخدم بدلاً من “if…not”:

• If you don’t study, you will fail. = Unless you study, you will fail.
• (إذا لم تدرس، سترسب. = إلا إذا درست، سترسب.)

Other modals in the main clause (أفعال أخرى في جملة الجواب):

• يمكن استخدام can, must, should بدلاً من will:
• If you finish your homework, you can watch TV.
• If you are sick, you should see a doctor.

Example 1: Complete the conditional sentences.

1. If you ____ (study), you ____ (pass) the exam. → If you study, you will pass the exam.
2. If it ____ (be) sunny, we ____ (go) to the beach. → If it is sunny, we will go to the beach.
3. She ____ (be) happy if she ____ (get) a present. → She will be happy if she gets a present.
4. If they ____ (not hurry), they ____ (miss) the train. → If they don’t hurry, they will miss the train.

Example 2: Rewrite using unless.

1. If you don’t water the plants, they will die. → Unless you water the plants, they will die.
2. If he doesn’t apologize, she won’t forgive him. → Unless he apologizes, she won’t forgive him.

Example 3: Complete the sentences with your own ideas.

1. If I have free time this weekend, I will ____.
2. If my friend invites me to his party, I will ____.
3. If it rains tomorrow, I will ____.
