The Numeral Comprehensive Rules and Usage
Arabic numerals have complex rules of agreement with the counted noun.
One and Two
Agree with the counted noun in gender. One book. Two books. They follow the noun and are adjectives.
Three to Ten
Opposite the counted noun in gender. Three books. Three pens. The counted noun is plural genitive.
Eleven to Ninety-Nine
Eleven and twelve: both parts agree with gender. Thirteen to nineteen: first part opposite gender second part agrees. Twenties to nineties: same form for both genders.
Hundreds and Thousands
Same form for both genders. The counted noun is singular genitive.
