Alliteration and assonance are sound-based rhetorical devices that add beauty to Arabic texts.
Alliteration Jinas
Using two words with similar pronunciation but different meanings. Types: complete alliteration identical words with different meanings. Partial alliteration similar letters. Example: The day of relief is near.
Assonance Saj
Rhymed prose where two or more phrases end with similar letters. Common in the Quran proverbs and literary prose. Example: By the dawn and the ten nights.
Purposes
Musical beauty emphasis memorization rhetorical power.
Exercises
Identify the device: 1) The night and the day. 2) He eats and drinks but does not remember. 3) The messenger is truthful.
