Writing a Narrative Paragraph

A narrative paragraph tells a story or describes a sequence of events. It is a key skill for the BAC exam and for expressing personal experiences in English.

Structure of a Narrative Paragraph

• Topic sentence: introduces the event or experience.
• Supporting details: describe what happened in chronological order.
• Concluding sentence: wraps up the story with a reflection.

Time Expressions

Use time words to show sequence: first, then, next, after that, finally, later, suddenly, immediately, meanwhile.

Tenses in Narrative

Use past tenses: Past Simple for completed actions, Past Continuous for background actions, Past Perfect for actions before another past action.

Example

“Last summer, I visited Paris with my family. First, we went to the Eiffel Tower. Then, we explored the Louvre Museum. Finally, we enjoyed a boat ride on the Seine River.”
