Degrees of Comparison: Advanced Uses

Comparative and superlative adjectives are used to compare people, things, and ideas. Mastering them is essential for clear communication.

Comparative Forms

• Short adjectives: adjective + -er + than (taller, faster).
• Long adjectives: more + adjective + than (more beautiful).
• Irregular: good/better, bad/worse, far/farther.

Superlative Forms

• Short adjectives: the + adjective + -est (the tallest).
• Long adjectives: the most + adjective (the most beautiful).
• Irregular: the best, the worst, the farthest.

Advanced Structures

• Equality: as + adjective + as (as tall as).
• Inequality: not as/so + adjective + as.
