Asking for and Giving Opinions: Key Expressions
Expressing opinions is a fundamental skill in English. These expressions are essential for the BAC exam, especially for the written expression and oral components.
Asking for opinions:
- “What do you think about…?”
- “In your opinion, …?”
- “How do you feel about…?”
- “What’s your view on…?”
- “Do you agree that…?”
- “Would you say that…?”
- “What are your thoughts on…?”
Giving personal opinions:
- “In my opinion, …” / “In my view, …”
- “I think/believe/feel that…”
- “As far as I’m concerned, …”
- “Personally, I think that…”
- “It seems to me that…”
- “From my perspective, …”
- “I strongly believe that…” (strong opinion)
Agreeing:
- “I agree completely.” / “I totally agree.”
- “You’re absolutely right.”
- “That’s a good point.”
- “I couldn’t agree more.” (strong agreement)
- “That’s exactly what I think.”
Disagreeing politely:
- “I’m not sure I agree with you.”
- “I see what you mean, but…”
- “I respect your opinion, but I think…”
- “I’m afraid I disagree.”
- “That’s one way of looking at it, but…”
- “I see your point, however…”
BAC Example 2023:
Task: Write a dialogue between two students discussing the importance of learning foreign languages. Use expressions for asking for and giving opinions.
