How to Write a Paragraph
A paragraph is a group of sentences that develop one main idea. A well-written paragraph has three parts.
Parts of a Paragraph
1. Topic Sentence
The topic sentence states the main idea of the paragraph. It is usually the first sentence.
Example: Reading is a very important habit for students.
2. Supporting Sentences
Supporting sentences give details, examples, or explanations that develop the main idea.
Example: First, reading improves your vocabulary. Second, it helps you learn new things about the world. For example, you can learn about different cultures and places through books. Moreover, reading makes you a better writer because you see how good writers express their ideas.
3. Concluding Sentence
The concluding sentence summarizes the main idea or ends the paragraph. It is usually the last sentence.
Example: In conclusion, reading is a good habit that every student should develop.
