Either…Or / Neither…Nor

These paired conjunctions connect two alternatives or negations.

Either…Or (positive choice between two options)

• You can have either tea or coffee.
• Either you apologize or you leave.
• The book is either in my bag or on the table.

Neither…Nor (negative of both options)

• Neither John nor Mary came to the party.
• I neither know nor care about that.
• The film was neither interesting nor funny.

Subject-verb agreement

With either…or / neither…nor, the verb agrees with the subject closest to it.

• Either the teacher or the students are wrong. (students=plural)
• Neither the students nor the teacher is wrong. (teacher=singular)
