Paragraph Writing

A paragraph is a group of sentences about one main idea. It has three essential parts.

Parts of a paragraph

1. Topic Sentence: The first sentence that states the main idea.
2. Supporting Details: 3-5 sentences that explain or prove the main idea.
3. Concluding Sentence: The last sentence that summarizes the paragraph.

Example Paragraph

Topic Sentence: Reading is one of the most beneficial hobbies. Supporting Details: First, it improves your vocabulary and language skills. Second, it expands your knowledge about different subjects. Third, it reduces stress and improves concentration. Concluding Sentence: Therefore, everyone should make reading a daily habit.

Transition words

First, Second, Third, Finally, In addition, Moreover, However, Therefore, As a result, For example.

Exercises

1. Write a paragraph about My Favorite Season.
2. Identify the topic sentence, supporting details, and conclusion in a given paragraph.
3. Add transition words to a paragraph to make it flow better.
