Gerunds and Infinitives
Some verbs are followed by a gerund (verb + ing), others by an infinitive (to + verb), and some by both with different meanings.
Verbs followed by Gerund (-ing)
Enjoy, finish, avoid, suggest, mind, practice, consider, admit, deny, recommend.
Example: I enjoy reading books. She suggested going to the park.
Verbs followed by Infinitive (to + verb)
Want, need, hope, plan, decide, promise, agree, refuse, learn, offer.
Example: I want to learn English. They decided to travel.
Verbs with both forms (same meaning)
Start, begin, continue, like, love, hate, prefer. Example: I started to study / studying.
Verbs with different meanings
Stop + ing (cease an action): I stopped smoking. Stop + inf (pause): I stopped to smoke.
Remember + ing (recall): I remember meeting him. Remember + inf (not forget): Remember to call me.
