Both, Either, Neither

These words are used to talk about two people, things, or options.

Both (positive — two)

• Both + noun: Both students passed the exam.
• Both of + pronoun: Both of them are good.
• Both…and: She is both kind and intelligent.

Either (one or the other)

• Either + noun: Either answer is correct.
• Either of + pronoun: Either of you can go.
• Either…or: You can have either tea or coffee.

Neither (not one nor the other)

• Neither + noun: Neither answer is correct.
• Neither of + pronoun: Neither of them knows the truth.
• Neither…nor: He neither called nor wrote.
