Baccalaureate Exam 2026 — English — Scientific Stream

Duration: 2 hours — Coefficient: 2 — Stream: Experimental Sciences

Part One: Reading Comprehension (12 points)

Read the text carefully then do the activities.

Climate change is one of the most pressing challenges facing humanity today. The rise in global temperatures, caused primarily by greenhouse gas emissions, has led to severe consequences including melting ice caps, rising sea levels, and extreme weather events. Scientists warn that without immediate action, the effects will become irreversible.

Algeria, like many other countries, is taking steps to address this crisis. The country has invested heavily in renewable energy, particularly solar power, given its vast Sahara desert which receives some of the highest solar radiation in the world. The government has launched several projects to increase the share of renewable energy in the national energy mix to 27% by 2035.

In addition to government efforts, individual actions matter greatly. Reducing energy consumption, using public transportation, planting trees, and raising awareness about environmental protection are all ways that ordinary citizens can contribute to the fight against climate change. Education plays a crucial role in promoting sustainable behaviors among the younger generation.
