Possessive Adjectives

Possessive adjectives show ownership or relationship. They come before a noun.

Table of Possessive Adjectives

• My: “my book, my house, my parents”
• Your: “your pen, your school, your friends”
• His: “his car, his brother” (for a male)
• Her: “her bag, her sister” (for a female)
• Its: “its tail, its name” (for animals/objects)
• Our: “our country, our teacher”
• Their: “their house, their children”

Important Rules

• Possessive adjectives agree with the possessor, not the object possessed.
• They do NOT change form for plural: “my book” / “my books”
• Do NOT confuse with possessive pronouns: “This is my book” vs “This book is mine“

Exercises

1. Complete with possessive adjective: “___ (I) brother – ___ (she) mother – ___ (they) car”.
2. Correct the errors: “He book – She pen – They house – I sister”.
3. Rewrite using possessive adjectives: “The book of John -> his book / The house of Mary and I -> our house”.
