The Past Continuous Tense
Describes actions in progress at a specific past time.
Formation
Subject + was/were + verb-ing. I was watching TV at 9pm. They were playing football.
Uses
Action at a past time: At 8pm I was studying. Interrupted: I was reading when the phone rang. Two simultaneous: While I studied he played.
Exercises
- Fill: I ___ (watch) TV at 9pm.
- Simple or continuous? I (walk) when I (see) an accident.
