Passive Voice
In the passive voice, the action is more important than the person who does it.
Formation
Subject + be (am/is/are/was/were) + past participle
Present Simple Passive
am/is/are + past participle
Example: English is spoken in many countries. (The focus is on English, not who speaks it)
Past Simple Passive
was/were + past participle
Example: The mosque was built in 1850.
Transformation

| The chef cooks the food. | The food is cooked by the chef. |
| The students wrote the essays. | The essays were written by the students. |
Exercises
- Change to passive: The boy feeds the cat.
- Change to passive: They built this school in 1990.
