Question Tags

Question tags are short questions at the end of sentences.

Rules

• If the statement is positive, the tag is negative.
• If the statement is negative, the tag is positive.
• Use the same auxiliary verb as in the statement.

Examples

🔹 You are a student, aren’t you?
🔹 She can swim, can’t she?
🔹 He doesn’t like coffee, does he?
🔹 They went to Paris, didn’t they?
🔹 It is raining, isn’t it?

Special cases

• I am late, aren’t I? (not amn’t I)
• Let’s go, shall we?
• Open the door, will you?

Exercises

1. Add question tags: (You like pizza, ___? She doesn’t know him, ___? They will come, ___?)
2. Correct: (You are happy, isn’t it? He plays football, doesn’t it?)
