Present Simple Tense
The Present Simple tense is used to express habits, general truths, repeated actions, and fixed arrangements. It is one of the most fundamental tenses in English grammar.
Uses of Present Simple
- Habits and routines: I wake up at 7 am every day.
- General truths: The sun rises in the east.
- Permanent situations: She lives in Algiers.
- Scheduled events: The bus leaves at 8 o’clock.
Formation

Spelling rules for 3rd person singular
- Add -s to most verbs: work → works, eat → eats
- Add -es to verbs ending in -s, -sh, -ch, -x, -o: go → goes, watch → watches
- Change -y to -ies after a consonant: study → studies, fly → flies
Negative Form
Use do not (don’t) / does not (doesn’t) + base verb.
- I do not like coffee.
- She does not speak Italian.
Interrogative Form
Use Do / Does + subject + base verb?
- Do you play tennis?
- Does he work here?
Examples
Ahmed goes to school every day.
They study English on Mondays.
The Earth revolves around the Sun.
