Grammar: Present Continuous for Future
Lesson Objectives:
- Learn how to use present continuous for future plans.
- Distinguish between present and future use.
- Talk about arranged future events.
Present Continuous for Future:
We can use the present continuous (am/is/are + verb-ing) to talk about fixed arrangements and plans in the near future.
Examples:
- I am meeting my friend tomorrow.
- She is leaving for Algiers next week.
- We are having a party on Saturday.
- They are travelling to Paris in July.
Time Expressions for Future:
- tonight, tomorrow, next week/month/year, on Monday, in July, at 5 o’clock.
Difference: Present vs Future:
- She is cooking dinner now. (present action)
- She is cooking dinner tonight. (future arrangement)
Exercises:
- Complete: “We ___ (go) to the cinema tonight.”
- Make sentences about your plans for next week.
- Ask your partner: “What are you doing this weekend?”
