How to Write a Paragraph about Your Family
Writing about your family is a common task in English. Here is how to write a good paragraph.
Structure of a Paragraph
- Topic sentence: Introduce your family. “I would like to tell you about my family.”
- Supporting sentences: Describe each member. “My father is a teacher. He is 45 years old. My mother is a housewife.”
- Concluding sentence: End the paragraph. “I love my family very much.”
Useful Vocabulary
- Family members: father, mother, brother, sister, grandparents, uncle, aunt, cousin
- Descriptions: tall, short, kind, funny, hardworking, generous, helpful
- Jobs: doctor, teacher, engineer, accountant, nurse, driver, businessman
- Hobbies: reading, cooking, playing football, watching TV, travelling
Example Paragraph
“My family is very important to me. My father’s name is Ahmed and he works as a doctor. My mother’s name is Fatima and she is a teacher. I have one brother and two sisters. My brother is 15 years old and he loves football. My sisters are younger than me. We live together in a nice house in Algiers. I love my family because they always support me.”
