Writing: Writing a Short Story (Narrative Writing)

Lesson Objectives:

• Learn the elements of a short story.
• Structure a narrative text.
• Write a short story with a clear beginning, middle, and end.

Elements of a Short Story:

1. Characters: the people or animals in the story.
2. Setting: where and when the story takes place.
3. Plot: what happens in the story (beginning, middle, end).
4. Conflict: the problem or challenge.
5. Resolution: how the problem is solved.

Writing Tips:

• Use past tenses (past simple, past continuous) for narration.
• Use time words: first, then, after that, later, finally.
• Use descriptive language to make the story interesting.
• Include dialogue to bring characters to life.

Exercises:

1. Write a short story (100-150 words) about a brave child who helps someone.
2. Use at least 5 time words and 3 descriptive adjectives.
3. Include a short dialogue between two characters.
