The Present Simple Tense
The present simple is used for habits, routines, facts, and general truths.
Formation
Affirmative: Subject + Verb (+ s/es for he/she/it). Ex: I play football. She reads every day. The sun rises in the east.
Negative: Subject + do/does + not + verb. Ex: I don t like coffee. He doesn t watch TV.
Question: Do/Does + subject + verb? Ex: Do you speak English? Does she walk to school?
Spelling rules for -s/-es
Most verbs: +s (plays). -ch,-sh,-ss,-x,-o: +es (watches, goes). Consonant+y: y→i+es (studies).
Exercises
Put verbs in correct form: My mother (cook) dinner. They (not play) tennis. (like) he chocolate? Write about your daily routine.
