Conjunctions: Coordinating, Subordinating, and Correlative

Coordinating Conjunctions

Join equal elements: FANBOYS (For, And, Nor, But, Or, Yet, So).

Example: I like tea and coffee. She is tired but happy.

Subordinating Conjunctions

Join a dependent clause to an independent clause: because, although, while, since, if, when, etc.

Example: Although it rained, we went out. I stayed home because I was sick.

Correlative Conjunctions

Pairs that join equal elements: both…and, either…or, neither…nor, not only…but also.

Example: Both Ali and Sara came. You can have either tea or coffee.

1. Identify the conjunction type: I like football but my brother likes tennis. Because he was late, he missed the bus.
