Introduction / مقدمة

In this lesson, we will learn how to describe people’s physical appearance in English. This is an important skill for communication, whether you are talking about a friend, a family member, or a famous person. We will learn the vocabulary for height, build, hair, eyes, and other physical features.

Grammar: The Verb “To Be” and “Have got” / القاعدة: استخدام الفعلين To Be و Have got

To describe physical appearance, we use:

• Subject + to be + adjective (لوصف الصفات العامة): He is tall. She is slim.
• Subject + have got + (adjective) + noun (لوصف الميزات): She has got long hair. He has got blue eyes.

Examples / أمثلة:

• He is tall and slim. هو طويل ونحيف
• She has got long curly hair and brown eyes. لديها شعر طويل مجعد وعيون بنية
• My father is well-built and has got short black hair. والدي قوي البنية وله شعر أسود قصير
• They are short and have got blonde hair. هم قصار ولديهم شعر أشقر

Exercises / تمارين

Exercise 1: Match the description with the person (صل الوصف بالشخص المناسب).

1. He is tall and thin with short brown hair. a) A baby
2. She is short and plump with long blonde hair. b) A basketball player
3. He is small and chubby with no hair. c) My grandmother

Exercise 2: Describe a member of your family using 5 sentences. Use “to be” and “have got” (صف أحد أفراد عائلتك باستخدام 5 جمل).
