Comparatives and Superlatives

Short adjectives (1-2 syllables)

Comparative: adjective + -er + than (taller than, faster than, bigger than)

Superlative: the + adjective + -est (the tallest, the fastest, the biggest)

Note: consonant + vowel + consonant = double (big > bigger, hot > hottest)

-y > -ier (happy > happier, easy > easier)

Long adjectives (2+ syllables)

Comparative: more + adjective + than (more beautiful than)

Superlative: the most + adjective (the most beautiful)

Irregular

good > better > the best

bad > worse > the worst

far > further > the furthest
