Grammar: Present Continuous for Future Arrangements

In English, the Present Continuous (am/is/are + verb-ing) is used to talk about future plans and arrangements that have already been made.

Structure

Subject + am/is/are + verb-ing + future time expression

Examples:

• I am meeting my friend tomorrow.
• She is leaving for France next week.
• They are having a party on Friday.

When to Use It

• Definite arrangements: I am seeing the doctor at 3pm.
• Planned events: We are celebrating Eid at my grandmother’s house.
• Appointments: She is taking the exam next Monday.

Comparison with “Going To”

• Present Continuous = definite, arranged plans
• Be going to = intentions and predictions based on evidence
