Writing a Formal Letter
Formal letters are used for official communication: job applications, complaints, requests. Structure: Sender address (top right), Date, Recipient address (left), Subject (RE:), Salutation (Dear Sir/Madam,), Body: Introduction (purpose), Main content (details), Conclusion (action expected), Closing (Yours faithfully/sincerely), Signature. Key phrases: I am writing to apply for… / I would like to express my interest in… / I am writing to complain about… / I would be grateful if… / I look forward to hearing from you. Example: Application letter for a job. Exercise: Write a formal letter applying for a summer job at a company. Include your qualifications, experience, and why you want the job.
