The Future: Will vs Going to
This lesson teaches the difference between will and going to for future actions. For 1st year literary stream students.
Will
Structure: Subject + will + base verb
Uses: Spontaneous decisions – “I will help you.” Promises – “I will call you.” Predictions – “It will rain tomorrow.”
Going to
Structure: Subject + am/is/are + going to + base verb
Uses: Plans and intentions – “I am going to study medicine.” Predictions with evidence – “Look at the clouds! It is going to rain.”
Comparison
“I will open the door.” (spontaneous decision at the moment)
“I am going to visit Paris next summer.” (planned intention)
Exercises
Choose will or going to: “A: It s cold. B: I ______ close the window.”
