Vocabulary: Food and Cooking
Food vocabulary is important for BAC reading and writing tasks. Learn the names of foods, cooking methods, and restaurant phrases.
Food Groups
Fruits: apple, banana, orange, grape, strawberry, watermelon. Vegetables: tomato, potato, carrot, onion, lettuce, pepper. Meat: chicken, beef, lamb, fish. Dairy: milk, cheese, yogurt, butter. Grains: rice, bread, pasta, couscous.
Cooking Verbs
cook, boil, fry, bake, roast, grill, steam, chop, peel, mix, stir, pour, add, taste, serve.
Restaurant Phrases
I would like to order… / Could I have the menu please? / The bill, please. / What do you recommend? / This dish is delicious.
Algerian Food Vocabulary
couscous, tagine, chorba, brik, mhadjeb, chakhchoukha, rechta, mloukhiya, sfiriya, zalabia.
