Conditionals: Zero and First Conditional

Conditional sentences express a condition and its result. There are different types depending on the probability of the condition.

Zero Conditional (General Truths)

If + present simple, present simple. Used for facts and general truths. Example: If you heat water, it boils. If it rains, the grass gets wet.

First Conditional (Real Future)

If + present simple, will + base verb. For possible future situations. Example: If I study hard, I will pass the exam. If it rains, we will stay home.

Structure comparison

• Zero: if + present, → present (always true)
• First: if + present, → will + verb (likely future)

Exercises

1. Identify the type: If you freeze water, it turns to ice.

2. Complete: If she ___ (study), she ___ (pass) the exam.
