Adverbs of Frequency: Always, Usually, Often, Sometimes, Never
Adverbs of frequency tell us how often something happens. They are usually placed before the main verb but after the verb “to be”.
List of adverbs
- Always (100%): She always arrives on time.
- Usually (90%): I usually have breakfast at 7.
- Often (70%): They often visit us.
- Sometimes (50%): He sometimes plays tennis.
- Rarely (10%): We rarely eat out.
- Never (0%): I never smoke.
Position in the sentence
Before main verbs: I always drink coffee. After “to be”: She is often late. In questions: Do you often travel?
Examples
- I always brush my teeth before bed.
- She usually walks to school.
- We sometimes go to the cinema.
- He never eats meat.

1. Put the adverb in the correct place: She gets up early. (always)
2. Write sentences using: always, sometimes, never.
