Verb To Be: Past Simple (Was/Were)
The past simple of the verb ‘to be’ has two forms: was (I, he, she, it) and were (you, we, they). Affirmative: I was happy, You were late, He was sick, We were tired, They were at school. Negative: I was not (wasn’t), You were not (weren’t). Questions: Was I? Were you? Was he? Were they? Short answers: Yes, I was. No, I wasn’t. Uses: describing past states (I was tired), past locations (They were at home), past age (I was 10 years old), past weather (It was cold yesterday).
