Present Continuous for Future Plans
The present continuous tense can be used to talk about fixed arrangements and plans in the near future.
Formation
Subject + am/is/are + verb-ing + future time expression.
- I am meeting my friends tomorrow.
- She is flying to London next week.
- They are having a party on Saturday.
Time expressions used
Tonight, tomorrow, next week, next month, this weekend, on Monday, in the summer.
Difference with Will and Going to
- Present Continuous: for fixed arrangements (I have already made plans). I’m seeing the doctor at 3 pm.
- Going to: for intentions/plans. I’m going to visit my grandmother.
- Will: for spontaneous decisions. I’ll answer the phone!
Exercises

- Make sentences about your plans for next weekend using present continuous.
